This year 2011 is a special year for us as it marks a milestone in the life of Potter's House Association. At the end of the year, we will achieve 25 years of continuous service in the garbage dump of Guatemala City!

This month: Key Programs lead to greater Impact

During the constructyion of our new facilities (1998- 2005), Potter´s House had the opportunity to take a step back and begin an extensive evaluation of the history and needs to the Treasures, read more to see what we found here.

The construction (1998- 2005)

After the fire, friends encouraged us to build a wall around the perimeter of our property in order to protect it.  What started out as a surrounding wall ended up being a whole complex that now houses our staff and 5 programs.

The construction of a permanent facility on the edge of the dump has improved the capacity, quality and impact of the work we do.

The Fire (1997)

Surrounded by neighbors who stored recycled materials and flammable substances in their little shacks, the fire risk was always present, but it was a risk that we at Potter’s House were willing to take. One night in May 1997, fear became a reality. In just 30 minutes, a devastating fire destroyed more than 10 years of hard work.

Volunteers with a Lecacy (1995) 

Volunteers have played a key role in the history of Potter's House. We wrote this letter to honor and thank to all those volunteers, Guatemalans and Americans, who supported the ministry in the beginning. Your legacy in this place will never be forgotten.

Purchase of the Land (1993)

In 1993, Potter's House ministry was flourishing, and friends encouraged Gladys and Lisbeth to find a property near the garbage dump where they could regulary serve the community. They believed that if a suitable property was found, it would be a sign from God that Potter's House was truly in His heart and will.

First Kids Camp of Potters House (1990)

Potter's House, serving families living in the Guatemala City garbage dump, makes memories that last a lifetime. Floridalma Valenzuela, now 27 years old, mother of two, fondly remembers the love, attention, and fun activities she enjoyed at Potter's House first camp she attended 18 years ago when she was jus 9 years old

It all started by doing a favor (1986)

25 years ago Gladys Acuña and Lisbeth Piedrasanta were asked to do a favor- go down into what was considered one of the most dangerous places in Guatemala City on Christmas morning and distribute blankets in the name of Jesus.
