Guatemalan hot fruit punch
Ingredients:
1 small pineapple
1 small papaya
4 apples
1 stick of cinnamon
1 package of mixed dried fruit (raisins, apricots, prunes, etc.)
Sugar to taste
Preparation:
Bring about 3 quarts of water to boil with sugar and a stick of cinnamon. Finely chop the fresh fruit and larger pieces of dried fruit. Add the fruit to the water and simmer for a half hour. Add more sugar to taste. Serve hot in cups with fruit.
Optional:
- Add one ripe plantain and a coconut cut into small pieces.
- Wash the pineapple very well before peeling and add pieces of the pineapple skin to the boiling water. Remove before serving.
- Boil hibiscus (rosa de Jamaica)—available at some Hispanic grocery stores–in water in a small pot and add it to the punch.
